Configure quality control setup

Quality Control (BC)  •  Article  •  8/26/2026  •

The Quality Control Setup page holds the settings that apply to the whole extension. Configure it before you create any other quality control record, because most of those records cannot be created until the number series on this page are assigned.

To open the page, select the Search icon , enter Quality Control Setup, and then choose the related link.

This step covers only what the tomato intake walkthrough requires. For a description of every field on the page, see Set up quality control.

Assign the number series

Populate all seven fields on the Number Series FastTab. Each field numbers a different record type, and the system tests the field when a record of that type is created — if the field is blank, creation stops with an error. Give each field its own series, so that a number identifies the kind of record it belongs to.

Create the series first on the standard No. Series page, then select them here. When you select a series, choose Select from the full list and make sure the Default Nos. checkbox is selected for that series.

Posted Quality Check Nos.Posted quality control checks — the completed record of a finished intake inspectionQC-CHK-P, producing QC-CHK-P00001
Quality Action Nos.Open quality actions, such as the corrective work raised when a delivery fails inspectionQC-ACT, producing QC-ACT00001

Quality Plan Nos.Quality control plans, such as the tomato intake planQC-PLAN, producing QC-PLAN00001
Quality Action Plan Nos.Quality control action plansQC-APLAN, producing QC-APLAN00001
Quality Option Nos.Quality control options — the reusable answer lists used by questionsQC-OPT, producing QC-OPT00001

Quality Check Nos. and Posted Quality Check Nos. together decide whether a check keeps its number when it is posted. If the two fields hold different series, the posted check is assigned a new number from the posted series. If both fields hold the same series, the posted check keeps the number of the open check. Use different series when you want to tell an open check from a posted one by its number alone; use the same series when you want one number to follow the inspection from creation through to posting.

Assign the inspection status reason code

In this walkthrough, the outcome of the intake inspection is carried on the received lot as an inspection status, which the Aptean Inspection Status extension provides. Whenever a quality control check sets or changes the inspection status of a lot, the extension also stamps a reason code on that lot, and it takes the reason code from the Reason Code Change Inspection Status field on the Quality Control Setup page.

The field is required for that update. If it is blank when a check would change the inspection status of a lot, the check stops with an error. Populate it with a reason code created specifically for quality control, so that inspection status changes made by a quality check can be told apart from changes made manually or by another process.

  1. In Aptean Inspection Status, create a reason code for quality control — for example a Code of QCCHECK with the Description Set by quality control check. For more information, see Set up inspection status reason codes in the Aptean Inspection Status documentation.
  2. On the Quality Control Setup page, on the General FastTab, select the reason code in the Reason Code Change Inspection Status field. The lookup opens the Inspection Status Reason Codes page, and only a code defined there can be selected.

The Reason Code Change Inspection Status field is only visible when the Aptean Inspection Status extension is installed and inspection tags are not enabled. When inspection tags are enabled, the inspection status of a lot is maintained through tags instead and this reason code is not used. For more information, see Aptean Inspection Status.

Confirm how quality check images are stored

Photos taken during an intake inspection are stored either in the Business Central database or in Azure Blob Storage. This workflow uses the Business Central database, which requires no configuration: leave the fields on the Blob Storage FastTab blank and leave Use Azure Blob Storage turned off.

To store images in Azure Blob Storage instead, populate Account Name, Container Name, and Access Key, and then turn on Use Azure Blob Storage. The toggle checks that the account and container are filled in before it can be turned on, and it cannot be turned off again while quality checks with the status New or In Progress exist. For more information, see Blob Storage FastTab and Manage images in quality checks.

Remaining fields

No other field on the Quality Control Setup page needs a value for tomato intake. Leave the rest at their defaults, including the fields on the Attributes, Settings, and Formula Settings FastTabs. For what each one controls, and when you might want to change it later, see Set up quality control.
