Manage images in quality checks
Images can be attached to any question line during a quality check. For questions with the Photo type, uploading an image is the answer itself. For all other question types, images are supplementary attachments to the line.
Images are stored either in Business Central's internal storage or in Azure Blob Storage, depending on the storage configuration on the Quality Control Setup page.
Manage images in the Quality Control App
To upload an image from your device, select the upload icon
on the question row.
To capture an image using your device camera, select the camera icon
on the question row.
After an image is added, it appears as a thumbnail below the question. Select a thumbnail to open the image gallery. If the Hide image preview in Quality Control App toggle is turned on in the Quality Control Setup, thumbnails are not shown inline — a Show Photos button appears instead. Select it to open the gallery.
The image gallery shows all images attached to the question line with thumbnails on the left. The image name is shown above the gallery. The following actions are available in the gallery:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Delete | Removes the currently displayed image. Deleted images are permanently removed and cannot be recovered. |
| Download | Downloads the currently displayed image. |
| + Add New | Uploads an additional image from your device. |
| + Take New | Captures an additional image using your device camera. |
Delete, + Add New, and + Take New are not available when viewing a posted check.
For example, to review and download an image attached to a question line, select the thumbnail to open the gallery, navigate to the image, and select Download.
Manage images in Business Central
To view or manage images attached to a question line, select the line on the Lines FastTab and choose Images on the action bar. The Quality Control Photo page opens, listing all images for that line. Each row shows the image description, which is editable on unposted checks. The Photo Preview FactBox on the right shows a preview of the selected image.
Select View Photo to open an expanded view of the selected image, or Download Photo to download it. On unposted checks, Import Photo imports an image from your device and Take Photo captures one using the device camera. Take Photo is only available when a camera is detected.
The Photo column on the QC Check Lines and Posted QC Check Lines pages shows a photo indicator for lines that have images attached, so you can see at a glance which questions have photos without opening each line. This matches the Photo indicator already present on quality control action lines.
When a check is posted, all photos on its lines are automatically copied to the posted quality control check. Photos on posted checks are read-only and cannot be deleted — open the check from the Posted Quality Control Checks list and use the same Images action to view them.
Photos in the posted quality control check report
When you print the Posted Quality Control Check report, photos attached to question lines are included in the output regardless of whether they are stored in Business Central or in Azure Blob Storage.
- The report dataset exposes up to 20 photo columns (Image1–Image20) per question line. The default report layout shows up to 5 photos. To display more, customize the report layout to reference the additional image columns (Image6–Image20).
- Option comments on question lines are included in the report dataset and can be shown in a customized layout.
- If a photo is stored in Azure Blob Storage and cannot be retrieved at print time, the affected image slot is left blank and the rest of the report renders normally.
Modifying the default RDLC report layout requires Report Customization in Business Central. For more information, see the Business Central documentation on report layouts.
