Configure the scoring

Quality Control (BC)  •  Article  •  8/26/2026  •

Scoring turns the readings into a grade. The plan lists the grades a delivery can receive, each grade is given the conditions it has to meet, and when the check is posted the system works down the list and assigns the first grade whose conditions are all satisfied.

Scoring is configured on the plan, so open it first: on the Quality Control Plan card for TOMATO, select Scoring on the action bar. The Quality Control Scores page opens.

Scores can only be edited while the plan's Status is New or Inactive, and the plan must already have at least one line. The plan was left as New in Create the tomato intake plan for this reason.

Add the three scores

Add one line per grade. Selecting a Score Code fills in Check Result from that code's default, so the results below should already be correct.

SequenceScore CodeCheck ResultInspection Status
10GREENPassQC PASS
20AMBERPassREWORK
30REDFailQC FAIL

Sequence is the evaluation order, and it is the whole mechanism: the system starts at the lowest sequence and stops at the first score whose criteria all pass. Green is checked first because it is the most demanding grade; a delivery that fails it is measured against amber, and anything that fails both falls through to red.

Fill in Inspection Status only if you completed Create the inspection statuses. It is what applies the outcome to the received lot, and it is the reason amber needs its own score rather than being handled by the plan's pass and fail statuses — an amber delivery passes, so a pass-or-fail rule could never route it to REWORK.

Leave Lot Attribute Name and Lot Attribute Value blank. They let a score write a grade onto a lot attribute, which is a separate way of recording the outcome and is not needed here.

Each score code can be used only once per plan.

Add the criteria

Select a score line, then select Criteria on the action bar to open the Score Criteria page for that score. Add the following criteria.

Score GREEN

Criteria TypeCriteriaCalculationEqualityValue
QuestionMAJORMAX<=2
QuestionMINORMAX<=5

Score AMBER

Criteria TypeCriteriaCalculationEqualityValue
QuestionMAJORMAX<=5
QuestionMINORMAX<=10

Score RED — add no criteria at all.

A score with no criteria is assigned as soon as it is reached, which makes red the catch-all: any delivery that satisfies neither green nor amber is rejected. Because it is a catch-all, it must sit last in the sequence.

Both criteria on a score must be satisfied for that grade to be assigned. A delivery with 1.5% major and 8% minor damage therefore misses green on the minor reading alone, and is graded amber.

Set Criteria Type to Category only if you want to evaluate a whole category of questions at once. MAJOR and MINOR exist as both a question code and a category code, and the Criteria field accepts whichever the type calls for — so make sure the type is Question on all four criteria above.

Why MAX

MAJOR and MINOR are calculated per sample, so a check produces two values for each: one for Sample 1, one for Sample 2. Calculation decides how those are reduced to the single number that is compared against Value.

MAX takes the worst of them. Green therefore means "neither sample exceeded 2% major damage", not "the two samples averaged under 2%" — one bad sample is enough to lose the grade, which is the safer reading for an intake decision.

Certify the plan

The plan is now complete, so certify it:

  1. Return to the Quality Control Plan card for TOMATO.
  2. Set Status to Certified.

Certifying validates every formula on the plan, so this is where a mistyped symbol or a malformed expression is reported. The plan cannot be used to create checks until it is certified.

If you need to change the scores again later, set Status back to New or Inactive first, then certify the plan again once the changes are made.
