Create the quality control equipment

Quality Control (BC)  •  Article  •  8/26/2026  •

The readings taken at tomato intake are gathered in different ways: sugar content with a Brix probe, pulp temperature with a thermometer, and defects by eye. An equipment record names each of those methods so that the inspector can see which one a question expects.

Equipment is reference information only. You assign a piece of equipment to a question when you create the question, and from there it flows to the plan lines that use the question and on to the lines of every check created from that plan. When the inspector opens the check in the Quality Control App, the equipment appears beneath the question as Equipment: Brix Probe, alongside the unit of measure when the question has one. The inspector cannot change it — the Equipment field on the check line is read-only.

To create the equipment:

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Quality Control Equipment, and then choose the related link.
  2. On the action bar, select New.
  3. Fill in the Code and Description fields.
  4. Repeat for each remaining piece of equipment.

Create the following three records.

CodeDescription
BRIXBrix Probe
THERMOMETERThermometer
VISUALVisual Inspection

The Description is what the inspector sees, so word it the way you want it to read on the check. If a record has no description, the app falls back to showing the code.

Equipment does not have to be a physical instrument. VISUAL records that the reading is a judgement made by eye, which tells the inspector no instrument is needed.
