Manage quality check lines
Quality control check lines list the questions to be answered during an inspection. Each line corresponds to a question from the quality control plan, and recording an answer updates the line result based on the configured target values.
Answer check questions in the Quality Control App
Select a quality control check from the list to open it. The check opens with the details panel on the left and the questions on the right.
Questions are organized in collapsible sections by frequency type:
- General — Contains per-test questions that apply once to the check.
- Sample 1, Sample 2, and so on — Each sample section contains per-sample questions that apply to that sample individually.
The Per Sample frequency type can be selected even when the Required Samples field is set to 1.
Each question shows its description, the answer input, and a result chip. Required questions are marked with an asterisk. When all questions in a section are answered, the section collapses and shows a check mark.
The result chip shows one of the following values:
- Open — The question has not yet been answered.
- Pass — The answer is within the configured target limits, or there is no target.
- Pass (Warning) — The answer is within the warning range but outside the target.
- Fail — The answer is outside the configured limits.
For questions where the target blind option is set on the quality control plan line, the chip shows Open when unanswered and Done when answered, rather than the specific pass or fail result.
Enter the answer in the answer input for each question. The input format matches the question type — text, numeric, option dropdown, date picker, or photo upload. Answers save automatically when focus moves away from the input, and the result chip updates immediately.
When a plan comment is configured on a quality control plan line, it appears as an information note below the question.
To add a comment to a question line, select the comment icon
on the question row. A text field appears below the answer input. If an option question is configured to require a comment for the selected value, the comment field appears automatically and must be completed before moving on.
To attach photos to a question line, use the upload
or camera
icon buttons on the question row. For more information, see Manage images in quality checks.
To add an extra sample, select Add Sample on the action bar. A new sample section appears containing the per-sample questions from the quality control plan. Samples beyond the required sample count show a delete icon on the section header — select it to remove the extra sample.
If the quality control plan has no per-sample questions, selecting Add Sample returns an error explaining that no new samples can be added.
Calculated formula lines are read-only and updated automatically based on the answers to other questions on the check.
For example, to record an answer for an option question, select the dropdown in the answer input and choose the appropriate value. If the selected option requires a comment, enter the comment in the field that appears before moving to the next question.
Select the more actions icon
on a question row to open a menu with additional options, including Show targets and Show all measurements. For more information, see View target values for quality check questions and View multiple readings per sample in quality checks.
Answer check questions in Business Central
Open a quality control check from the Quality Control Checks list. The Lines FastTab on the Quality Control Check card lists all questions for the check.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| QC Question Code | Specifies the quality control question code. |
| Description | Specifies the question or sample description. Sample header rows are displayed in bold. |
| QC Equipment Code | Specifies the equipment code assigned to the question. |
| QC Unit of Measure | Specifies the unit of measure for the answer. |
| Answer | Specifies the recorded answer. |
| Result | Specifies the line result — Pass, Pass (Warning), or Fail — based on the configured targets. Hidden when the target blind option is set on the quality control plan line. |
| Comment | Specifies a comment for the question line. |
| Sample Size | Specifies the sample size. Shown only on sample header rows. |
| Mandatory | Specifies whether the question must be answered. |
| Target Upper Limit, Target Upper Warning, Target, Target Lower Warning, Target Lower Limit | Specifies the configured target values for the question. Hidden when the target blind option is set. |
To enter an answer, select the Answer field on the question line. For most question types, type the value directly. For the following types, select the field to open a lookup:
- Option — Opens the option list. Select a value to apply it as the answer.
- Photo — Opens the photo page for the line.
- Lot Attribute — Opens the lot attribute value lookup.
The Result field updates automatically after an answer is entered.
To add or remove samples, use the Add Sample and Remove Sample actions on the action bar of the Lines FastTab. Remove Sample removes the last sample and is only available when the sample count exceeds the required sample count.
To view photos associated with a line, select the line and choose Images on the action bar.
For example, to record a decimal measurement, select the Answer field on the question line and type the value. The Result field updates immediately to Pass, Pass (Warning), or Fail based on the configured target limits.
Add a reading
If you need to record an additional measurement for a question — for example, when an initial result is inconclusive — you can duplicate the question line using the Add Reading action.
- Select the question line you want to repeat.
- Choose Add Reading from the action bar, or from the three-dot menu in the Quality Control App.
A new line is inserted immediately after the original, with the same question and configuration. The new line's Source Line No. links it back to the original.
Add Reading is not available for calculated formula questions or on posted quality control checks.
Add a question
You can insert a question from the question library into a check that is already in progress, without modifying the quality control plan.
- Select the question line after which the new question should be inserted.
- Choose Add Question from the action bar, or from the three-dot menu in the Quality Control App.
- A lookup opens showing available questions from the library. Select the question to add.
If the selected question is also defined on the quality control plan, its target values, thresholds, and configuration are inherited automatically. Ad-hoc questions not found on the plan are assigned a sequence of 0.
Add Question is not available on posted quality control checks. Actions are disabled when no question line is selected.
