Create follow-up checks after a failed check
A follow-up quality control check is created automatically when a check fails. The follow-up uses a different plan and team than the original — typically a more thorough inspection performed by quality control staff — so that the failure is investigated rather than re-tested with the same questions.
Configure follow-up behavior on a plan
Follow-up creation is driven by two fields on the Quality Control Plan card:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Failure QC Plan | Specifies the plan used when creating the follow-up check. |
| Failure QC Team | Specifies the team assigned to the follow-up check. |
When both fields are populated, the system creates a follow-up check whenever a check that uses this plan is posted with result Fail. For more information on plans, see Quality control plans.
How follow-up checks are created
When a quality control check is posted with result Fail:
- The system reads the Failure QC Plan and Failure QC Team from the original check's plan.
- A new check is created using that plan and team.
- The new check is linked to the same source document as the original.
- The Original Failed QC No. field on the new check is populated with the original check's number.
The follow-up check appears on the Quality Control Checks list with status New, ready for the assigned team to begin the inspection.
Trace the original check
To navigate from a follow-up check to the check that triggered it, open the new check and select the Original Failed QC No. field on the General FastTab or in the Details group on the FactBox. The posted version of the original check opens.
