Audible feedback for scans and errors
When a scan is rejected or a workflow action fails, the Mesh app generates a distinct alert sound on the device. You are immediately notified without looking at the screen, allowing you to continue scanning during operations such as picking and receiving.
You can control the alert sound using the Error Sounds toggle on the Settings screen.
Error sound
The app generates a short alert tone in any of the following situations:
- A scan is rejected — for example, the scanned barcode is not recognised in the item master or item references.
- A validation fails — for example, the entered quantity exceeds the pick line, or the wrong lot is scanned.
- Business Central returns an error response for any workflow action, including pick, receipt, put-away, transfer, and inventory adjustment.
The app respects the device volume setting. If the device is muted or set to zero volume, no sound is generated. The error message is still displayed on screen regardless of the device volume.
Error Sounds setting
An Error Sounds toggle is available in the Scanner Feedback section of the app settings screen. This setting controls whether the alert sound is generated.
All three toggles in the Scanner Feedback section — Beep on Scan, Vibrate on Scan, and Error Sounds — are turned on by default.
To change the Error Sounds setting
- From the Home screen, open Settings.
- In the Scanner Feedback section, turn on or off the Error Sounds toggle.
- Select Save.
