When the Aptean Packaging extension is used in conjunction with the Aptean License PLating extension, the system automatically updates Order Bound Shipping Container packaging transactions using the Shipping Container recorded on the License Plate header. This removes the need to enter the Qty. to Post manually on the Packaging page for the Order bound Shipping Conatiners associated with the License Plates.

Prerequisites

The integration applies only when all the following conditions are met:

  • In the Packaging Setup Packaging Calculation Method is set to Manual.
  • On the Register Packaging Setup page, the Inbound Transactions checkbox is selected and the Inbound - Order Bound checkbox is cleared for inbound transactions. For outbound transactions, the Outbound Transactions checkbox is selected and the Outbound - Order Bound checkbox is cleared. For more information, see Register packaging setup.
  • The item is License Plate-tracked, and the Require License Plate Tracking checkbox is selected for the location.
  • The Shipping Container recorded on the License Plate header is not set up as Item Bound on the Default Item Packaging page. For more information, see Default and Mandatory Packaging.

Locations set up for inventory picks or inventory put-aways are not supported.

Item Bound and Order Bound Packaging in Default Packaging Setup

  • The system updates the Order Bound Shipping Container packaging transaction only when the Shipping Container associated with the License Plate is configured as Order Bound.

  • If the Shipping Container is configured as Item Bound in Default Item Packaging, no License Plate-based Order Bound Shipping Container update is performed.

  • The Shipping Unit remains independent of the Shipping Container. License Plate integration updates the applicable Order Bound Shipping Container quantity and does not change the standard Shipping Unit calculation.

Packaging Calculation Before License Plate Processing

  • When the Packaging page is opened before item tracking lines exist, the Order Bound Shipping Container Qty. to Post for a License Plate-tracked item at a location where Require LP Tracking is selected remains 0 instead of being populated from Default Item Packaging.

  • For Lot-tracked items, the standard Default Item Packaging calculation continues to apply where License Plate-based packaging processing is not applicable.

Inbound transactions

The integration supports purchase Order, sales return Order, Purchase Invoice and Sales Credit Memo.

  • For Inbound Transactions, the Shipping Container selected during the Create License Plate process is associated with the License Plate and is used to update the Qty. to Post of the Order Bound Shipping Container in the packaging transactions. This applies to Purchase Order, Purchase Invoice, Sales Return Order, and Sales Credit Memo.

Outbound transactions

The integration supports Sales Order, Purchase return Order, Sales Invoice and Purchase Credit Memo and Transfer Order Shipment.

  • For Outbound Transactions at Warehouse locations, when a License Plate is assigned in Warehouse Pick, the selected Shipping Container associated with the License Plate is used to update the corresponding Order Bound Shipping Container packaging transaction when the Warehouse Pick is registered.

  • For Outbound Transactions at Direct Locations, when License Plates are assigned on the Item Tracking Lines, the selected Shipping Container associated with the License Plate is used to update the corresponding Order Bound Shipping Container packaging transaction. This applies to Sales Order, Purchase Return Order, and Purchase Credit Memo.

  • When the user executes Assign Pick License Plate No., the system prompts the user to select the Shipping Container for the new Pick License Plate when Outbound - Order Bound is cleared in Register Packaging Setup.

If the Outbound - Order Bound checkbox is selected, the prompt is skipped and the default Shipping Container behavior applies.

Modifications/Deletions in the Item Tracking Lines

  • The system maintains the Order Bound Shipping Container's Qty. to Post based on the applicable License Plates rather than calculating the quantity proportionally from Qty. to Handle or the total tracked quantity.

  • In the Item Tracking Lines, when an applicable License Plate changes from Qty. to Handle = 0 to a positive quantity, the related Shipping Container Qty. to Post increases by one.

  • In the Item Tracking Lines, when an applicable License Plate changes from a positive Qty. to Handle to 0, the related Shipping Container Qty. to Post decreases by one.

  • In the Item Tracking Lines, changes between positive Qty. to Handle values do not change the Shipping Container Qty. to Post. The License Plate continues to be counted once as long as it has a quantity remaining to be handled.

  • If the same License Plate remains active on another tracking line, it continues to be counted. A License Plate with Qty. to Handle = 0 is not counted.

  • The system allows you to manually add an existing License Plate to an Item Tracking Line and automatically update the corresponding Order Bound Shipping Container packaging transaction using the Shipping Container associated with the License Plate.

  • When you delete an Item Tracking Line that contains a License Plate, the Order Bound Shipping Container's Qty. to Post decreases by one, unless the License Plate is still on another tracking line of the document with a quantity to handle.

Recalculate

  • When Recalculate Packaging is executed, the system recalculates the Shipping Container quantity based on the License Plates that still have a quantity remaining to be handled.

Shipping Units and lot-tracked items

The integration updates Shipping Containers only. Shipping Units continue to be calculated from the Default Item Packaging setup. Lot-tracked items continue to use the standard packaging calculation.
