Packaging for Negative Line
Packaging for negative lines
When you reopen a released purchase order or sales order and use the Create Negative Line action to create negative lines, for example to return goods, and then release the order again, the system generates the packaging lines for the negative lines separately from the packaging lines of the original positive lines. Positive and negative packaging quantities are calculated separately and are not netted against each other.
The packaging for positive and negative lines is handled on the following logistical documents:
| Order | Location setup | Positive lines | Negative lines |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purchase order | Warehouse location (warehouse receipt and shipment) | Warehouse Receipt | Warehouse Shipment |
| Purchase order | Inventory location (inventory put-away and pick) | Inventory Put-Away | Inventory Pick |
| Sales order | Warehouse location (warehouse receipt and shipment) | Warehouse Shipment | Warehouse Receipt |
| Sales order | Inventory location (inventory put-away and pick) | Inventory Pick | Inventory Put-Away |
Sales orders
The Round Order Bound Shipping Containers Per option determines when the quantity is rounded.
| Round Order Bound Shipping Containers Per | How the quantity is calculated | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Order Line | The required quantity is calculated for each negative line and rounded up to the next whole integer. The rounded values are then summed for lines that share the same packaging type and location. | Two negative lines of -6 each, 4 per packaging: 2 + 2 = -4 |
| Order | The required quantity is calculated for each negative line and summed up for lines that share the same packaging type and location. The total is then rounded up to the next whole integer. | Two negative lines of -6 each, 4 per packaging: 1.5 + 1.5 = 3.0 = -3 |
Purchase orders
The required quantity is calculated for each negative line and summed up for lines that share the same packaging type and location. The total is then rounded up to the next whole integer.
To create and post packaging for negative lines
- Open the released purchase order or sales order and reopen it.
- Use the Create Negative Line action to create the negative lines.
- Release the order. When the Packaging Calculation Method is On Release, the system generates the packaging lines for the negative lines.
- Create the warehouse or inventory document for the negative lines, as listed in the table.
- Enter the quantity to process. For warehouse documents, enter the Qty. to Receive or Qty. to Ship. For inventory documents, enter Qty. to Handle. The system calculates the packaging only for lines with a quantity entered.
- Open the Packaging Transaction page to review the packaging quantities.
- Post the document. The packaging entries are created with negative quantities.
When the Packaging Calculation Method is Manual, the system does not generate packaging lines when you release the order. You can preview the calculated quantities on the Packaging Transaction page. The Order Bound quantities are editable, and the Item Bound quantities are calculated automatically and are read-only. The system creates the packaging entries for the negative lines with negative quantities when you post.
You cannot change the quantity of a packaging line for a negative line to a positive value in Packaging Transaction page.
