EMCS uses Excise Product Codes to define goods. Unit of measurement that are associated with that product code are used to express quantities in transactions.

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Tax Excise Product, and then choose the related link.
  2. On the Tax Excise Product page, select the unit of measurement in the EMCS Unit field. The available options are:
    • Kg — quantity is expressed in kilograms, calculated from net weight
    • Litre15 — quantity is expressed in litres at 15 degrees Celsius, calculated from unit volume
    • Litre20 — quantity is expressed in litres at 20 degrees Celsius, calculated from unit volume
    • 1000 Items — quantity is expressed in thousands of pieces, calculated from the EMCS Quantity (1000 pcs) field on the Item Card page

When using the 1000 Items EMCS unit, the EMCS Quantity (1000 pcs) field on the Item Card page must be configured with the number of individual pieces per base unit of measure. For more information, see Setting up items for customs document management.
