Set up suggested demand line split templates

You can configure named split templates that define how suggested demand lines are automatically split when a production plan is calculated. Each template contains one or more split dimension lines that determine the dimension by which the lines are split.

When a split template is applied during the calculate production plan step, the system generates one suggested demand line per unique combination of the configured dimension values found in the demand data. This enables the production planner to immediately view demand broken down by each dimension combination without any manual splitting.

Understanding how splitting works

When a Split Template Code field value is selected on the Calculate Production Plan page:

  • The system generates the initial suggested demand lines as normal, based on the demand from Sales Orders and Demand Forecast Entries pages.
  • The system then reads the split dimension lines defined in the selected template.
  • For each unique combination of the configured dimension values present in the demand data, a separate suggested demand line is created.
  • The resulting split lines are displayed on the Suggested Demand Lines page, where each line represents one unique dimension combination.

For example a template named CUST-DATE has two split dimension lines: Expected Customer No. and Lot Production Date. If the demand data contains three customers, each with two different lot production dates, the system generates up to six suggested demand lines per item - one for each customer and lot production date combination.

The following split dimensions are available:

Split DimensionDescription
Lot Production DateSplits demand lines per unique lot production date value. One suggested demand line is created per date, enabling separate production orders for each production date.
Expected Customer No.Splits demand lines per unique customer. One suggested demand line is created per customer that has demand for the item.
LocationSplits demand lines per unique warehouse or location code.
Third Party No.Splits demand lines per unique service provisioning owner (Third Party). This is applicable only when the Aptean Service Provisioning extension is intalled.

The following procedure outlines how to set up a suggested demand line split template.

  1. Repeat step 4 to add additional split dimensions as required.
  2. Select OK to save the template.
  3. The split template is available for selection in the Suggested Demand Line Split Template Code field on the Calculate Production Plan page. For more information, see Generate a production plan..

You can combine multiple split dimension lines within a single template. The system splits the suggested demand lines by each unique combination of all the configured dimension values.

The Split Template Code field on the Calculate Production Plan page is only available when the Generate Plan field value is set to Sales Demand -> Planning Worksheet.
