Set up expiration date mandatory
The Expiration Date Mandatory toggle on the Item Tracking Code Card provides a stricter expiration date check than the standard Require Expiration Date Entry field. When enabled, the system blocks posting at the item journal posting level if no expiration date has been assigned to the lot, rather than at the tracking lines entry level.
Configure expiration date mandatory
To configure the expiration date mandatory setting on an item tracking code:
- Select the Search icon
, enter Item Tracking Codes, and then choose the related link.
The Item Tracking Codes list page opens. - Select the relevant item tracking code, or select New to create a new one.
The Item Tracking Code Card opens. - On the Misc. FastTab, make sure the Use Expiration Dates toggle is enabled.
- Turn on the Expiration Date Mandatory toggle.
The Expiration Date Mandatory toggle is only editable when Use Expiration Dates is turned on. If you try to turn off Use Expiration Dates while Expiration Date Mandatory is enabled, the system displays the following error: You cannot stop using expiration dates if you require expiration date mandatory on the item tracking code.
- Close the page. The setting is saved automatically.
Expiration Date Mandatory works independently from the standard Require Expiration Date Entry field. You can enable Expiration Date Mandatory without enabling Require Expiration Date Entry, and vice versa.
If the expiration date is auto-calculated by the EXM Expiration Date Calculation formula on the item card, the mandatory check is satisfied automatically, and posting succeeds without manual entry.
The validation applies to inbound item movements (positive entries). It does not block negative or outbound entries. For item reclassification or transfer journal lines, the New Expiration Date field is validated instead.
