Set up formulation management

Formulation Management  •  Article  •  2/2/2025  •

On the Formulation Setup page, you must configure the number series for formulation records, production BOM versions, routing versions, default operation scaling methods, and formulation security settings.

The following steps describe how to set up the formulation management fields.

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Formulation Setup, and then choose the related link.

The Formulation Setup page opens, displaying a list of existing groups.

  2. On the General FastTab, in the Default Op. Scaling Method field, select the desired scaling method. This method determines how operations and phases are scaled when formulation quantities change. The available options are:

  3. Proportional: Operations scale proportionally with the formulation quantity changes. For example, if you double the batch size, mixing times and processing durations will also double.

  4. Fixed: Operations maintain fixed durations regardless of formulation quantity changes. This is useful for operations like setup times or quality checks that don't vary with batch size.

  5. On the Numbering FastTab, enter the following fields:

    FieldDescription
Formulation NosSelect the code for the number series that will be used to assign numbers to formulation records.
Production BOM Version NosSelect the code for the number series that will be used to assign numbers to production BOM version records, when formulations are converted to production BOMs
Routing Version NosSelect the code for the number series that will be used to assign numbers to routing version records, when formulations operations and phases are converted to routing.
  6. On the Formulation Security FastTab, select the Formula Visibility field value to define the default visibility level for new formulations. The available options are:

  7. Private: Formulations are visible only to the user who created them.

  8. Shared: Formulations are visible to all users with appropriate permissions.
  9. Group: Formulations are visible only to members of a specific R&D group. This balances security with controlled collaboration within defined teams.

  10. In the Owner Code field, specify the default owner for new formulations based on the selected visibility level. The behaviour of this field depends on the Formula Visibility field setting:

    • For Private formulations: The system automatically assigns the current user's user ID as the owner.
    • For Shared formulations: This field remains empty as shared formulations have no specific owner.
    • For Group formulations: Use the lookup to select an R&D group code that will own the formulations.

You cannot manually enter values in this field. Use the lookup function to modify the Owner Code field value, which ensures proper validation and security controls are maintained.
