Walkthrough: Item weight integration

Standard Measurements  •  Article  •  6/24/2026  •

Overview

Use this walkthrough to verify that changes to weight fields on the Item Card page update the correct values and that the Calculate Weights action correctly updates the corresponding Unit of Measure (UOM) lines in all four supported scenarios. The following two setup options control this behavior:

FlagPageValues
Automatic Gross WeightStandard Measurement SetupON / OFF
Sync Weight to Item UOMFoundation Setup (Drink-IT)Net / Gross

These two flags combine into four scenarios:

ScenarioAuto GrossSync WeightExpected result
1aOFFNetNet Weight
1bOFFGrossGross Weight
2aONNetNet + auto-computed Gross + Tare
2bONGrossGross + recalculated Tare

Prerequisites

Before you start any scenario, ensure the following:

  1. Extensions installed: Standard Measurements (MEA), Foundation Management (FND), Drink-IT base.
  2. Test item: An item with at least one base UOM and one alternate UOM configured (e.g., PCS as base, BOX as alternate with conversion factor = 6).
  3. Item card weight values pre-set:
    • Net Weight = e.g., 1.000
    • Gross Weight = e.g., 1.200
    • Tare = Gross - Net = 0.200 (derived, not manually entered)
  4. The flag UpdateItemUOMWithItemChange is FALSE (default in all DIT deployments - no action needed).

Existing Item Walkthrough

This section covers the same four scenarios using an item that already exists in the system - no pre-set values required. Record the item's current weights first, then use those recorded values as your reference throughout.

Step 1 - Find a Suitable Existing Item

An item is suitable if it meets all of the following:

  • Has at least one base UOM and one alternate UOM (e.g., PCS base + BOX alternate).
  • Has Net Weight and Gross Weight already filled on the item card (both > 0).
  • Is not a production-critical item - weight edits will be made and should be reverted after testing.

  • Select the Search icon , enter Items, and then choose the related link.

  • Filter or browse to an item with UOM lines configured.
  • Select the item to open the item card.
  • Verify that Net Weight > 0 and Gross Weight > 0 on the item card.

Step 2 - Record Baseline Values

Before making any changes, record the item's current values:

FieldRecorded Value
Item No._______________
Base UOM_______________
Alternate UOM_______________
Alternate UOM conversion factor_______________
Item card - Net Weight_______________
Item card - Gross Weight_______________
Item card - Tare (= Gross - Net)_______________

Choose the Units of Measure action and record the current Net Weight and Gross Weight values on each UOM line before making any edits.

These recorded values replace the hardcoded example values (1.000 / 1.200 / 0.200) used in the new-item scenarios above. Substitute your recorded values wherever those appear in the steps below.

Step 3 - Configure Setup Flags

Follow the same Setup Steps defined earlier in the main walkthrough to set the two flags per the scenario you are testing.

Existing Item - Scenario 1a (Auto Gross OFF, Sync = Net)

Setup: Automatic Gross Weight = OFF | Sync Weight to Item UOM = Net

Part A: Update Net Weight on Item Card

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Items, and then choose the related link.
  2. Select the test item to open the item card.
  3. In the Net Weight field, enter a new value (e.g., your recorded Net Weight + 0.500), and then press Tab to confirm.
  4. Choose the Units of Measure action.
  5. Verify the Net Weight and Gross Weight fields on the base UOM line reflect the updated item card values.

Part B: Calculate Weights Uses Recorded Tare

  1. Choose the Calculate Weights action.
  2. Verify the values on the base UOM line:
FieldExpected Value
Netyour recorded Net Weight
Tareyour recorded Gross Weight - your recorded Net Weight
Grossyour recorded Gross Weight
  1. Verify the values on the alternate UOM line:
FieldExpected Value

Part A: Update Net Weight on Item Card - Auto Gross Computed from Existing Tare

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Items, and then choose the related link.
  2. Select the test item to open the item card.
  3. In the Net Weight field, enter a new value (e.g., your recorded Net Weight + 0.500). Note this as NewNet, and then press Tab to confirm.
  4. Verify the values on the Item card:

  • Choose the Units of Measure action.

  • Verify the Net Weight and Gross Weight fields on the base UOM line:

  • Net Weight = recorded Net Weight

  • Gross Weight = NewGross

Part B: Calculate Weights - No Tare = 0 Regression

  1. Choose the Calculate Weights action.
  2. Verify the values on the alternate UOM lines show Tare > 0 and correctly scaled by the conversion factor.
