Manifest Transformations

On the Manifest Transformations page, transformation rules can be defined for manifest line field values. A transformation replaces a raw value, clears it, or forces a fixed value, so that vendor-specific or inconsistent values from an imported file are normalized before the manifest line is checked against master data. Transformations run automatically both when a manifest is imported and when the Recheck action is used on the Manifest page.

To set up a manifest transformation

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Manifest Transformations, and then choose the related link.
    The Manifest Transformations page opens.
  2. On the action bar, select New.
  3. Fill in the fields as follows:

    FieldDescription
Data Exchange Definition CodeSelect the data exchange definition code that the transformation applies to.
Data Exchange Definition NameSpecifies the name of the selected data exchange definition.
Table IDSelect the ID of the table that contains the field to transform. In this release, only the Manifest Line table is available for selection.
Table CaptionSpecifies the name of the table selected in the Table ID field.
Field IDSelect the ID of the field to transform. Only fields that belong to the selected Table ID are available for selection.
Field CaptionSpecifies the name of the field selected in the Field ID field.
Vendor No.Select the vendor that the transformation applies to. If this field is left blank, the transformation applies to all vendors under the selected data exchange definition.
Vendor NameSpecifies the name of the vendor selected in the Vendor No. field.
Transformation TypeSelect how the value is transformed. Options:
    • Replace Value — replaces the value entered in the Source Value field with the value in the Target Value field.
    • Empty Value — clears the value when it matches the Source Value field value.
    • Fixed Value — always applies the Target Value field value, regardless of the field's current value.
Source ValueEnter the raw value to look for during the transformation. This field is not available when Transformation Type is set to Fixed Value.
Target ValueEnter the value to apply during the transformation. This field is not available when Transformation Type is set to Empty Value. The value must be valid for the data type of the selected field, for example a valid date or decimal number in the current regional format.
CommentEnter a comment for the transformation rule.

A transformation rule with the same Data Exchange Definition Code, Table ID, Field ID, Vendor No., and Source Value combination cannot be created twice. When both a vendor-specific rule and a rule with a blank Vendor No. match the same field and source value, the vendor-specific rule takes precedence. A Fixed Value rule overwrites the field's current value with the Target Value field value, regardless of what the field held before.

Access manifest transformations from a manifest

The Transformations action on the Manifest and Manifests pages opens the Manifest Transformations page, filtered to the manifest's Data Exchange Definition Code.

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Manifests, and then choose the related link, or open an existing manifest.
  2. On the action bar, select Transformations.
The Manifest Transformations page opens, showing the transformation rules configured for the manifest's data exchange definition.

For example, a vendor delivers manifest files where the Location Code value is always entered as the abbreviation WH1, while Business Central uses the location code WAREHOUSE1. A transformation rule with Transformation Type set to Replace Value, Source Value WH1, and Target Value WAREHOUSE1 is created for that vendor. The next time a manifest from that vendor is imported, the Location Code value is transformed to WAREHOUSE1 before the manifest line is checked against master data.
